Pancreatic elastase
Pancreatic elastase is a key enzyme produced by the pancreas and essential for the proper digestive process. Due to its stability, levels in faeces provide a reliable indicator of pancreatic function, making its dosage an essential test for detecting any insufficiency or damage to this organ. Reduced elastase values may correlate with pancreatitis, autoimmune diseases and other clinical conditions, while normal values indicate that the pancreas is functioning properly.
