Fecal Occult Blood
Faecal occult blood, or faecal haemoglobin, which is often asymptomatic, is a predictive marker of important gastrointestinal diseases, including colorectal cancer. Faecal occult blood (FOB) detection is now performed with immunochemical tests (FIT), which provide greater sensitivity and specificity, reducing the risk of false results, and do not require dietary or pharmacological restrictions. FIT tests also enable laboratories to provide a more accurate and efficient preventive and diagnostic service.
